I have an addictive nature for movies, TV shows, and games. I drive my wife crazy with this obsession. However from time-to-time, I find games that can be used for an educational purpose. Right now my favorite games are math games for my iOS devices — and my absolutely favorite game is 2048.
If you haven’t heard of this game, then you are missing out! 2048 is fun (and addictive) math puzzle game. It’s available on the App Store and the Google Play Store as a free download. Drew Minock (@TechMinock) shared this game on Twitter a few weeks ago and now I can’t stop playing it. (Why should I stop playing…I need to share it!)
The way the game works is by combining two tiles with the same number into a tile of their sum. The point of the game is to unlock the 2,048 title or until the 4×4 board is filled with tiles. It uses 2, 4, 8, 16, and so on to build numbers until you reach the 2,048. At first the game seems fairly simple enough. However it didn’t take long before I started Googling “How to beat 2048” to get some tips and tricks for the game.
The game was created by Gabriele Cirulli, a 19 year old from Northern Italy (Can you believe a teenager designed this game?) 2048 would make an excellent addition to your suite of educational apps for students. Also there are several videos that have strategies to help you reach the 2048 tile if you need a little help… however try it on your own first!
